I have worked in ECE since my family immigrated to New Zealand in 1998.  I had taught in the primary sector in South Africa, before travelling through England and Austria for four years.  After gaining my ECE degree (a change in pathways), I worked in Reggio inspired centres, the kindergarten association, private centres with a variety of philosophies and practices and in leadership within the University of Auckland’s Early Childhood Centres.

I had always had an interest in taking a career pathway into Inclusive Education, and so after years in teaching I completed two postgrad papers in Special Education / Educational Learning Support.  After this I remained in ECE however, working at the University of Auckland for almost 4 years, in the capacity of Assistant Centre Leader at one of the ECE centres and then in a co-leadership role for the redevelopment and reopening of one of the ECE centres.

The arrival of a grandson in June 2018 brought about some changes in our lives, and at the beginning of 2019 I moved back to work on the Northshore to be closer to home.

I have years of experience in early childhood education and my interests are in mindful and responsive teaching, inclusive practice, sustainable educational leadership, mentoring and team building that supports best practice and innovative centre programming.

I look forward to getting to know the children and their families, the teaching team and the wider whanau of Reach for the Stars learning community over the coming months.
