What to Expect in the Babies Room

When a child joins the baby’s room they will be assigned a primary carer.  This is the person that will change them, put them to sleep and be their primary caregiver.  This assists a baby to settle into the Centre and feel trust and secure in this new environment.  While they will interact with the other teachers in the room, they soon become relaxed and identify with their primary carer.

You and your baby can expect:

  • A safe, nurturing and stimulating environment.
  • A variety of toys and planned activities for children’s holistic development.
  • A caring, professional and passionate team that respects different culture of children, meets the needs of each child and provides great communication to parents.
  • To learn to be independent and active explorers who gain confidence in and control of their body and learn strategies for thinking.
  • Your child’s play will be valued as meaningful learning and their schemas (which are their way of learning eg. transporting and transforming, an example of this schema is when children tip items out of containers or move objects from one place to another) Your child’s teachers will be able to explain a schema to you in more detail if you would like more information.
  • Your child to be encouraged to learn with and alongside others, regardless of their gender, ability, age, ethnicity or background.
  • Your child to be given opportunities to develop language skills.
  • Your child to be encouraged to follow the room routine and learn the boundaries, while being aware of their individual needs and routines.

Nicole Zhu, Infants Teacher at our Albany Centre

Nicole Zhu

Teacher (0-2 year olds)
Bachelor of Teaching (ECE)

I have been working at Reach for The Stars since last August. I finished my Bachelor of Teaching last year in March and this is my first year being a full time teacher. I really enjoy working with children and I am very excited to see the development and achievement they have done. I also believe that every child is unique. They have their own potentials which should be encouraged and supported to reach for the further stages.

Hi all, my name is Maya Risteska. I come from Macedonia and I have been in New Zealand since 2011. I love NZ's nature and diverse culture and I really enjoy living here. I'm happily married and have a daughter Jana, who is almost 3 years old. My childcare career started in Macedonia where I was a caregiver for young children for a few years and I'm very excited to have the same opportunity to do what I love at Reach for the Stars. I'm grateful to be a part of such a good team, and looking forward to building strong relationships with all children, families and teachers here at Reach for the Stars.
